The Automotive Group of the Vehicle, Fuel, and Environment Research Institute began its
activities in 2005 with the development of an urban hybrid-electric bus project. Over the years,
this group has undertaken numerous projects in the fields of compressed natural gas (CNG)
vehicles, electric vehicles, hybrid-electric vehicles, mechanical hybrid vehicles, and fuel cell
hybrid vehicles. Additionally, significant efforts have been made in the design, development,
and manufacturing of powertrain components for electric and hybrid electric vehicles. These
components include traction motor drives, battery packs and battery management systems,
Vehicle Control Unit (VCU), DC-DC converters, and auxiliary power systems. The achievements
of this group include the development of a hybrid-electric bus, a fully electric urban bus, and an
electric motorcycle.
