Mechatronics Research Department
The word “Mechatronics” originated in Japanese-English and was created by Tetsuro Mori, an engineer of Yaskawa Electric Corporation. in 1969. It is an alternative to the term electromechanical systems and, to a lesser extent, to the terms control engineering, robotics, and automation. This word and concept are now known as not only a concept in Iran and the world but also a field with this name have been established in different universities of the world and Iran. Control, telecommunications, computer, etc. are present.
This discipline and concept seek to take an integrated look at systems consisting of mechanical, electronic, control, and software components. The term mechatronics draws your attention to mechanics and electronics. The goal of mechatronics is to achieve simpler, cheaper, easier, and more flexible systems; with this science, mechanical systems can be automat.
Today, the field of mechatronics is known all over the world. The number of scientific journals and conferences dedicated to the field of mechatronics is also expanding. In the field of industry, international companies have used this expertise to produce and supply products ranging from advanced cameras, humanoid robots, medical devices, and smart vehicles. In Iran, the science of mechatronics also has a history of 10 to 20 years, and due to the increasing use of complex products and systems in the country’s industries, the need to create new structures to utilize mechatronics knowledge and train up-to-date specialists have become especially important.
Mechatronics Research Department History
Preparations for the formation of Mechatronics Research Department, Vehicle, Fuel & Environment Research Institute (VFERI) in 2016 and with the support of the Director of the Research Institute, Dr. Esfahanian, and in 2017, this group aims to focus on designing and manufacturing automation systems, robotics, machine vision systems, image processing, construction, and equipment of research and industrial laboratories were officially established. From its establishment until 2022, Mechatronics Research Department has implemented more than 20 research and study projects along with the execution of several proposals, of which 5 have completed industrial projects and 2 are in progress.
